5 Reasons You Should Consider A Role In Social Care

Moving into the New Year, are you considering looking for a new job? Working in the social care sector can be both extremely challenging and rewarding position but can bring great value to both your life and the lives of many others.

If you are tired of your current career, why not give it a go? Here are 5 reasons why you should consider working in social care in 2022...

There are many options to start…

Firstly, a common misconception surrounding the health and social care sector is that if you choose to build a career within it, you have to become a nurse or social worker or work with older people. However, there is a lot of variety that comes with the social care sector that does not simply involve these roles.

There are options to become a Support Worker with younger people or people with learning disabilities in Supported Living, Residential Care, Life Long Learning or Employment Support.  amongst several other key support roles. Therefore, within the social care sector, there is something for everyone of all backgrounds to make a difference.

It’s a chance to help other people and to have fun...

Secondly, it is a chance to help other people on a practical level. A lot of people who choose to work with us have a passion for making a difference and want to be part of the change that gives back independence to those who we support.  It’s also an opportunity to share your own interests with like-minded people who struggle to access their interests without help.  What other roles pay you to go to the pub, the theatre, football matches or to keep fit?

The smallest things really do make a huge difference when you work in social care, with every action taken playing a key part in the mission of supporting people with learning disabilities. You truly do get to go home every single day knowing that you have made a change and that you are part of a community of like-minded people.

Gain skills that last a lifetime…

Thirdly, you are able to gain qualifications and skills that last a lifetime. From leadership, communication, and other transferable skills all the way to receiving qualified status, there are many ways to progress and grow as an individual.

It is true that every single day is different when working in social care. One day, you could be supporting someone with their medication, accompanying someone to the hospital, or helping someone with growing their confidence and skills. The role is completely varied and allows you to become more adaptable and resourceful, equipping you with skills that will only grow as you also grow.
