Leaving a Legacy to Harpenden Mencap
Harpenden
Mencap has been providing support and services to people with a learning disability and their families since 1959. Throughout
this time we have had individuals who have chosen to remember the Society in their will, by leaving a legacy to the charity.
What Harpenden Mencap can guarantee you
- We understand that making a will can be a private matter,
and we will always respect your privacy
- Harpenden Mencap understands that you have a right to change your will at
any time, without the need to notify us
- We will always use your gift carefully and cost-effectively, so that it has
the greatest benefit to the lives of people with a disability.
Leaving a gift to Harpenden Mencap There are three main types of bequest you can make - - Specific
Bequest.: This is where you name a particular item as a gift to be given to an individual cause. This can be from
something small to a large item like a house
- Pecuniary Bequest This is a gift of a specific
amount of money that will state exactly how much you leave and to what charity.
- Residuary Bequest. This
is a gift made from your estate after your family's wishes have been carried out. You can specify what percentage of the
remaining funds you want to leave to a specific cause.

Events and VolunteeringOne of the most effective ways we raise funds is through holding events such as quizzes, coffee mornings, concerts
etc. In order to do this effectively we urgently need new ideas and people to help us organize things. Thank you.
