Adult Residental Homes Ethos

Harpenden Mencap Society believes that anybody receiving a service from us should be given the opportunity, support, information and encouragement to:
  1. take part in everyday community activities;
  2. make and maintain valued relationships;
  3. make choices about their lifestyles;
  4. be protected from abuse of any kind;
  5. be treated with dignity and respect;
  6. have the right to know who holds information about them and to expect that any information will only be shared with those who need to know in order to care for, support or protect them;
  7. be treated as an individual
  8. have their religious, cultural and lifestyle needs met;
  9. have the opportunities to take risks. Excessive paternalism and concern over safety can lead to the erosion of personal rights. Those who can make decisions should be free to do so, as long as they do not threaten the safety of others.
.
